Gary Steele

President and Chief Executive Officer

Gary Steele is Splunk’s President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of our board of directors. A highly regarded technology executive with over 30 years of experience, he has a proven track record of successfully scaling SaaS operations and growing multi-billion dollar global enterprises. Prior to joining Splunk, Gary was the founding CEO of Proofpoint, where he led the company’s growth from an early-stage start-up to a leading, publicly traded security-as-a-service provider. He previously served as CEO of Portera and held various leadership roles at Sybase, Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard. Gary has also served as a member of the board of directors of Upwork, a talent freelancing platform, since 2018. He holds a B.S. from Washington State University.

Tom Casey

Senior Vice President, Products & Technology

Tom Casey is the Senior Vice President, Products & Technology for Splunk. With over 25 years of experience, Tom is responsible for evolving Splunk’s market-leading unified security and observability platform. Prior to joining Splunk, he served as Senior Vice President, Engineering at DocuSign, where he led the company’s product strategy, including development, execution and delivery of all products worldwide. Prior to DocuSign, Tom served as Vice President, Platform and Infrastructure at Apptio, where he helped scale the Company’s SaaS platform from a single offering to a multi-product portfolio. Before that, he spent 16 years at Microsoft in a number of leadership positions in product and engineering. He holds a B.S. from the University of Arizona.

Sharyl Givens is the Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer for Splunk. Prior to Splunk, she spent 11 years at Proofpoint in human resources leadership roles, including the past eight years as Chief Human Resources Officer. At Proofpoint, Sharyl was responsible for driving global business growth through people-centric human resources initiatives, including key talent development, DEI and wellness programs. Sharyl has over 20 years of experience, including a variety of human resources roles at Rambus, SanDisk, Dolby Laboratories, Opsware (formerly Loudcloud and now part of HP Inc.) and Calico Commerce. Sharyl holds a B.S. from Menlo College.

Graham V. Smith has served as a member of our board of directors since 2011 and Chair since 2019. From November 2021 to April 2022, Mr. Smith served as our interim CEO. Mark Carges has served as a member of our board of directors since 2014. He previously served as Chief Technology Officer of eBay Inc., an e-commerce company, from September 2009 to September 2014. Mr. Carges was a member of the eBay Inc. leadership team since September 2008, overseeing eBay Inc.’s platform strategy, as well as having overall responsibility for technology, software development and site operations for eBay.com. Prior to joining eBay Inc., Mr. Carges was Executive Vice President, Products and General Manager, for the Business Interaction Division at BEA Systems, a provider of enterprise application infrastructure software which was acquired by Oracle in April 2008. During more than a decade at BEA, Mr. Carges held a variety of senior technology leadership roles, including Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Carges began his career at Bell Labs as one of the original architects of Tuxedo, software for constructing highly scalable transaction processing applications. Mr. Carges has served as a member of the board of directors of Veeva Systems Inc., a provider of industry cloud solutions for the global life sciences industry, since 2017. Ken Hao has served as a member of our board of directors since 2021. Since December 2019, Mr. Hao has served as Chairman and Managing Partner of Silver Lake, a global technology investment firm. Prior to this role, Mr. Hao served in various roles at Silver Lake, which he joined in 2000, including Managing Partner and Managing Director from 2012 to 2019. Prior to joining Silver Lake, Mr. Hao served as Managing Director at Hambrecht & Quist (now part of J.P. Morgan), from 1990 to 1999. Mr. Hao has served as a member of the board of directors of SolarWinds Corporation, an IT infrastructure management software company, since 2016. Mr. Hao previously served on the board of directors of Broadcom Inc., a global technology leader in semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions, from 2016 to 2018, SMART Global Holdings, Inc., a provider of specialty memory, storage and hybrid solutions, from 2011 to 2021, and NortonLifeLock Inc., a global leader in consumer cyber safety, from 2016 to 2022. Patricia B. Morrison has served as a member of our board of directors since 2013. Ms. Morrison was Executive Vice President, Customer Support Services and Chief Information Officer at Cardinal Health, Inc., a provider of healthcare services, from 2009 to 2018. Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Ms. Morrison was Chief Executive Officer of Mainstay Partners, a technology advisory firm, from 2008 to 2009, and Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Motorola, Inc., a designer, manufacturer, marketer and seller of mobility products, from 2005 to 2008. Her previous experience also includes Chief Information Officer of Office Depot, Inc. and senior-level information technology positions at PepsiCo, Inc., The Quaker Oats Company, General Electric Company, and The Procter & Gamble Company. Ms. Morrison has served as a member of the board of directors of Baxter International Inc., a global medical products company, since 2019. Prior to joining HubSpot, she served as Chief Customer Officer of Dropbox, Inc., a cloud-based storage and collaboration company, from August 2018 to January 2020, and as Vice President, Business Strategy and Operations, from 2016 to 2018. David Tunnell has served as a member of our board of directors since 2022. Since 2003, Mr. Tunnell has served as a Partner at Hellman & Friedman (H&F), a private investment firm. He is a member of the H&F Investment Committee, leads the Firm’s San Francisco office, and oversees its investing activities in the Software & Tech and Insurance & Insurance Services sectors. Mr. Tunnell joined H&F originally in 1994 and has been involved with numerous portfolio companies over 25 years of H&F’s investing history. General Dennis L. Via, US Army, Retired, has served on our board of directors since 2020. General Via has served as an Executive Vice President for Corporate Engagement and a member of the Global Defense Sector leadership team since 2021, an Executive Vice President in the Global Defense Group’s Joint Combatant Command business from 2018 to 2021 and a fellow for Defense Futures since 2017 at Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., a management and information technology consulting firm. Prior to joining Booz Allen, he served in the United States Army from 1980 to 2016, holding multiple command and senior leadership positions, including as the Commander of the U.S. Army Materiel Command from 2012 to 2016 and retiring as a four-star General. General Via has served as a member of the board of directors for Milliken & Company, a diversified industrial manufacturer, since 2019. He holds a B.S. from Virginia State University and a Master of Education from Boston University.

Prior to joining Unity, Mr. Visoso served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of Palo Alto Networks, Inc., a cybersecurity company, from 2020 to 2021. Prior to joining Palo Alto Networks, he served in various roles at Amazon.com, Inc., an e-commerce and cloud-computing company, from 2018 to 2020, including as Chief Financial Officer of Amazon Web Services, Inc. in 2020, and Chief Financial Officer of Amazon’s Worldwide Consumer organization, from 2018 to 2020. From 2016 to 2018, he served as Senior Vice President, Business, Technology and Operations Finance at Cisco Systems, Inc., a networking technology company. Rick Wallace has served as a member of our board of directors since 2022. Mr. Wallace has served as President, CEO and Director of KLA Corporation, a supplier of industry-leading equipment and services that enable innovation throughout the electronics industry, since 2006. Prior to this role, Mr. Wallace served in various leadership roles at KLA during his over 30-year tenure with the organization, including as Chief Operations Officer from July 2005 to December 2005, Executive Vice President of the Customer Group from May 2004 to July 2005, and Executive Vice President of the Wafer Inspection Group from July 2000 to May 2004. Prior to joining KLA, he held positions with Ultratech Stepper, Inc. and Cypress Semiconductor Corporation. He previously served on the board of directors of Proofpoint, Inc., a cybersecurity and compliance company, from 2017 to 2021, and NetApp, Inc., a storage and data management company, from 2011 to 2019. Mr. Wallace holds a B.S. from the University of Michigan and an M.S. from Santa Clara University.
